After 27 painstaking years of restoration, Lorenzo Ghiberti’s La Porta del Paradiso,originally located on the east side of the Baptistery, can finally be admired, once again, by the numerous tourists who visit Florence. The door was damaged during the ’66 flood and was duly replaced by a copy. The original masterpiece is now at the Museo dell’Opera del Duomo and protected behind safe glass to avoid humidity from damaging the exterior bronze and gold.
