“Great hotel, GREAT location, lovely owners!” Hotel Colomba Florence 05/09/2011 | We spent the better part of our Italian holiday based out of this lovely little hotel just 2 blocks from the Duomo. Spending 5 nights in a place really gives you an opportunity to get a feel for the people who work there, and every day, these people just got nicer and nicer (except for one little exchange, described below.) Our room was not in the main part of the hotel, but was a converted room in the couple's upstairs apartment. At first, it seemed a little odd going through a computer room and a living room to get to our room, but we never felt like we were intruding and always had a sense of privacy.
The first thing to note about this hotel is it's location. It is perfectly located just to the north of the Duomo, one block to the west of the Academia. Because you are to the north of the Duomo, you are not smack in the middle of heavy tourist traffic. We were still able to get just about anywhere of importance within 15 minutes walking.
Our room had a lovely view of the domes of the Medici chapel. And being able to look down from our window onto what I imagine is typical Florentine daily life (think little back patios, clotheslines, and people watering potted gardens) was just lovely.
One thing to be aware of: just like most hotels, they ask you to leave your key when you leave. I normally have no problem with this, and expect it when traveling. The only problem is that there is no night door guy, and one of the owners (the older gentleman) stays up waiting for you to get in so that he can give you back the key. We did not realize this, and we have a bit of a penchant for staying out very late during vacations. Our first night, we stayed out until 4 am, and came back stumbling. I didn't think anything of it, since this is a hotel and we are adults. The next morning, however, the wife was a little snippy to us about it. I had mentioned, "yeah, we had a late night last night," to which she replied, "yeah. I heard all about it" with a slight roll of eyes. I understand that he had to stay up to let us in, but that's part of what owning a hotel means. If you're unwilling to hire a night clerk, then you'll occasionally have to deal with the drunken Americans who come back way too late. I just would have expected less attitude on this one occasion.
Other than that one little exchange, this was a great place to stay. Especially if you are "early to bed" people, this would probably be your best value for your Florentine getaway!

“Great Hotel, Great Location hotel colomba florence 11/08/2011 | We stayed at Hotel Colomba for two nights in August 2011 and very glad we did! Roseanne and Sabina made our stay at the hotel lovely! Our room was extremely clean and comfortable with lots of room for the four of us. Breakfast was delicious and filling. The hotel is in a great location. It's a short walk from the train station as well as easily accessible to all sights. We walked everywhere and appreciated coming back to our hotel for a rest. My husband also appreciated the internet access, provided free to guests. We would definitely stay here again- you will not be disappointed!

Excellent Location and Caring Owners/Staff”hotel colomba florence 02/08/2011 | The location of this hotel was perfect. We were walking distance to everything.
When we first got there they were so helpful with us getting set with our parking that they came down to the street to help. The whole time we were there it was liking being in your own home with family.
We had a room that accomodated four of us. It was perfect because it was one double bed and two twin beds which eliminates kids not getting along right from the start. The hotel was clean and everything worked. It may not be the most posh, but I wouldn't have traded posh for this kind staff and the excellent location.
Will recommend to friends.

“Wonderful Family Operated Hotel” hotel colomba florence 31/07/2011 | My family and I stayed for 2 nights in July. The location is perfect. The room was spotless, and it was a very nice size. “Wonderful hotel” hotel colomba florence 27/07/2011 | We are a family of 4 and stayed in July 2011. We had a quad room. It was great. Very spacious and clean. The breakfast was amazing with lots of variety. The location was perfect. Most of all the staff was EXTREMELY helpful. They suggested places to eat and helped us organize a day trip to Cinque terre. They gave us excellent directions to a number of locations. All this with a smile. Would recommend this highly.

Great hotel with wonderful friendly staff” hotel colomba florence Reviewed May 23, 2011 17/06/2011 | A great family hotel with wonderful staff. My wife and I stayed at the hotel for five nights during Easter and were very glad we did. Rosanna and her staff were extremely welcoming and friendly. The room we were allocated was spacious, comfortable and had a cheery aspect, especially as I had to spend a morning getting over a very bad head cold. The central location of the hotel was very beneficial in allowing us to walk to everything we wanted to see. Florence was a wonderful experience and was made so because of Rosanna and staff.
